Use a sage bundle or wood stick

A bundle or aromatic wood stick is used over a suitable ash-catching dish.

1. Place a heatproof dish on a stable surface and ventilate the space.
2. Light the end briefly, then gently extinguish the open flame; rest the smoldering item securely over the dish.
3. Keep it attended and extinguish fully before storing the cooled item.
