Use an ashtray or snuffer

The tray catches ash; a fitted snuffer helps extinguish a cigarette.

1. Set it on a stable heat-resistant surface away from combustible items.
2. Use the tray or snuffer opening for its intended purpose and confirm the ember is out.
3. Let everything cool completely before emptying and cleaning.
